Too much chocolate cake?

Can that be possible?! Today has been a GREAT day for one little man named Christopher! Glenn & I had thought about postponing his birthday till this coming weekend. (Glenn's been out of town.) But, we knew the school teacher would make some birthday comment and spoil our trickery.

So, all day long I've been explaining to him that it's his birthday but we won't have a cake (he wants an airplane cake) till Dad gets home. He's really stuck on this cake thing. So, Glenn convinced him over the phone that Mom would make him cupcakes and he bought it.

He wanted chocolate cupcakes, with chocolate chip "surprise" inside plus chocolate frosting. So, as the birthday boy ordered...

As he was "downing" these cakes he finally got to #3 and stated... Mom, I don't think I can eat another bite. I don't like chocolate anymore! (I wish it was THAT easy for me!)

It was a wonderful day all-in-all! I think we sang the "birthday song" to him about five times. He kept wanting us to sing to him. And it was hard to get to school this morning for Grandma and Grandpa in Nebraska sent this:

But the day did come to an end with a nice visit from Grandma and Grandpa Thomas and one can ALWAYS expect a silly toy from Grandma:

All was quiet....TOO QUIET!!!

Well, it got pretty chilly last night (40ยบ), so we had our first fire. We didn't really need a fire, but it was fun. Too much fun for the boys. I left them doing their homework by the fire for a few minutes to log on to the the computer. April was gone running an errand. Everything seemed fine. Logan came in a few minutes later to tell me he was done and that he wanted to go outside to play in the hammock. I checked his homework and then said he could go ahead and go play outside.

A few minutes later April got home and I came out of the office when I noticed that the screen in front of the fire was opened a few inches. I didn't think too much of it at this point. When I came closer I saw melted CRAYONS and drips all over the hearth.

How can you be mad at faces like these?

Start 'em young

Today when we were planning our Saturday activities Mike said he was going to mow the lawn. Thomas responded, "no, Thomas do it." We tried to explain that it's a Daddy job but he wouldn't budge. We laughed and agreed that he'll just run away when he hears the motor, as usual. Oh no, he still insisted that he was mowing the lawn today. He'll still want to do this when he's a teenager, right?

Our New Pet

Well, you have seen our friendly neighborhood BEAR. We now have some pictures of our NOT SO FRIENDLY Rattlesnake. It is an "Arizona Black" Rattlesnake. Or it WAS an Arizona Black.

This is our Headless Snake

Here is Logan, Spencer (neighbor) and Mason holding Fred. (the snake)

He made the mistake of showing himself while I was working around the house. He seemed to think that the retaining wall I made of rock was a good place to move into. Boy was he wrong.

You were not the
interruption of my life
You were the purpose
of my life. They are not the interruption of your life
They are the purpose of your life.

The Passage of Time

I remember when the 3 boys were teenagers/young adults and we would move the coffee table in the family room so they could wrestle and tackle each other. I suppose it stems from some instinctual need men (especially brothers) have to prove their brawny manliness. But now, in the decline of muscle-tone and hair, that rugged, jungle-like display has turned into "really hard" yoga poses.

Pictures

Isn't anyone else going to upload pictures of Melanie's wedding to Brent's gallery? (Russell) Here's the link once again...
